EU to raise power consumption cut goal to 13% by 2030

BRUSSELS, May 18 (PRIME) -- The European Commission plans to set a goal of energy consumption cut by 2030 at 13% instead of the current 9% in order to reduce the Russian fuel dependence, and also to raise imports of gas from different states and boost the share of renewable energy to 45%, head of the authority Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.

"RePowerEU will help us to save more energy to accelerate the phasing out of fossil fuel and, most importantly, to kickstart investments on a new scale," the official said. "So I would say this will be the speed-charging of our European Green Deal," she said adding that investments in the project would reach 300 billion euros.

She said that the E.U. reduced Russian gas consumption share to 26% in April 2022 from 40% in April 2021.
